SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Being an art student at Cal State San Bernardino is more than learning how to paint and draw – it’s about learning how to be an artist.
On June 12, CSUSB students will display their works at the Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum, commencing the 38th Annual Student Art Exhibition. The museum, which was recently granted accreditation by the American Association of Museums, has risen to new heights of excellence and distinction.
“It is a remarkable opportunity for students from our
university to now be able to display their works in an
accredited museum,” said Eva Kirsch, director for the Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum.
The show features more than 60 pieces of work across 13 genres, including painting, drawing, photography,
printmaking, sculpture, glass, ceramics, wood and furniture design and graphic design.
With a 30 percent acceptance rate, getting a piece into the show is competitive. Art students can submit up to two works in each studio area and a juror from outside the university selects the works to be included in the exhibition. This allows students the real-life experience of being a part of a professional show.
The 38th Annual Student Art Exhibition will run from June 12 through July 26, with an opening reception on June 12 from 5-7 p.m. A preview for Friends of the Museum will be held at 4:30 p.m.
The Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum is home to the largest display of ancient Egyptian antiquities west of the Mississippi River. Established in 1996, the RVF Art Museum has accumulated a collection of nearly 1,200 objects focusing on Egyptian antiquities, ceramics, and contemporary art.
Admission for exhibits at the Fullerton Art Museum is free. Hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday. Parking is $4 per vehicle ($5 after July 1). Phone: (909) 537-7373. |
